Genus Neon Simon, 1876

Diagnoses of genera of South East Asia: Genus: Neon. So far, only two species of this well known genus have been found in our area. The carapace is oblong, a little longer than wide, parallel-sided, and curves briefly to a very wide, truncate posterior edge. It is greyish in colour with dark surrounds to the eyes. The abdomen is a broad oval, a little wider than the carapace, with a moderately wide truncate anterior edge. It is whitish grey with irregular grey spots and has a collar of dark grey adpressed hairs anteriorly. The legs are light grey becoming darker near the joints and on the sides.
Distribution: Neon is mainly a holarctic genus. However, there are still two Neotropical species on record which would repay further examination. Murphy & Murphy 2000: 342-343. By courtesy of the Authors' and the Malaysian Nature Society.
