Salticidae: Diagnostic Drawings Library

by Jerzy Proszynski 1999

Genus Mantius Thorell, 1891

Diagnoses of genera of South East Asia: Mantius (5-8; 6-10). The five species of Mantius all come from our area, but except for the drawing of the female genitalia by Proszynski, 1984 there is no recent information. The cephalothorax is high and slopes downwards in both directions from the rear eyes, steeply on the thoracic part. It is often dark reddish-brown in colour. The abdomen is a plump oval and uniform yellowish-brown in colour with whitish hairs. The legs are of similar size and length, with the front legs reddish brown and the others yellowish-brown. The genus is said to be close to Ptocasius.
Distribution: Mantius is known only from P. Malaysia, Nicobar Is., Sumatra, Java and Sarawak. Murphy & Murphy 2000: .284-285. By courtesy of the Authors' and the Malaysian Nature Society
